Dermalogica · Peel Preparation & Aftercare
Care for your skin, before and after.
These recommendations apply to chemical peel treatments. For other Dermalogica facials, follow the advice provided by your skin therapist. Your individual treatment instructions always take priority.
Before your peel
Preparing your skin helps minimise avoidable irritation. Please tell your therapist about your skincare routine, medication and recent skin treatments before your appointment.
- Pause exfoliation and sensitising skincare. Dermalogica advises avoiding exfoliants, retinoids and hydroxy acids for 5–7 days before Pro Power Peel. Check your routine with your therapist.
- Keep make-up minimal on the day. Avoid experimenting with new skincare beforehand.
- Protect against sun exposure. Avoid sunburn and unprotected sun exposure for at least a week beforehand. Use SPF 30 or higher and seek shade.
- Keep skincare gentle. Avoid products that leave your skin dry or irritated, and maintain your usual hydration.
- Plan other treatments carefully. Avoid IPL or laser for at least two weeks beforehand, and waxing, depilatory creams or electrolysis on the treatment area for five days. Do not shave your face on the day.
Do not stop prescribed skincare or medication without advice from your prescriber. Contact us before attending if your skin is sunburned, broken or irritated.
After your peel
Even without visible peeling, treat your skin gently and follow your personalised aftercare instructions.
- Cleanse gently. Use the cleanser recommended by your therapist and rinse with cool water. Avoid hot water on your face.
- Limit heat and exercise. Avoid strenuous exercise on treatment day, along with prolonged heat from saunas or steam rooms. Follow your therapist’s advice if sensitivity continues.
- Let skin recover. Avoid scrubs, cleansing brushes, abrasive cloths and exfoliating products until your therapist advises otherwise.
- Follow your recovery routine. Use your recommended moisturiser or post-procedure kit. Ask your therapist before restarting retinoids, acids or acne treatments; consult your prescriber about prescribed products.
- Do not pick peeling skin. Allow loose skin to shed naturally.
Sun protection & recovery products
Use a broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen of at least SPF 30 as directed after your peel. Avoid direct sun exposure for 2–3 weeks and wear a wide-brimmed hat outdoors.
Your therapist will select products for your skin and the peel performed, rather than relying on a single routine for everyone. Follow the supplied instructions throughout recovery.
Contact us if you are unsure about your skin’s response or when to resume your usual products. Seek medical advice for severe or worsening pain, blistering or significant swelling.
