AFTERCARE ADVICE
Brow lamination is one of the hottest eyebrow treatments out there right now. With its ability to manipulate brow hairs into your desired position, it’s no wonder that brow lovers can’t get enough of the results. However, to maintain laminated brows you need to ensure that you’re following the correct aftercare. Our easy-to-follow brow lamination aftercare tips will ensure that you get the very best results, every time.
PRE-TREATMENT RECOMMENDATIONS
- Avoid using exfoliating (be it AHA, BHA or scrubs) and anti-ageing skincare around the brow area for three days either side of your treatment
- Avoid fake tanning products (including gradual tan) on the face for three days either side of your treatment, as it can discolour the eyebrow tint (unless you’re after khaki-coloured brows!)
- Your therapist may apply some makeup at the end of your treatment; however you should avoid applying any further heavy makeup (foundations, etc) on the area around the brow for 24 hours
POST TREATMENT ADVICE
- Avoid getting the brow area wet for 24-hours
- Avoid contact with direct sunlight, sunbeds, saunas, steam rooms and swimming pools for the next 48-hours
- Avoiding excessive rubbing or touching of the treated area for 24-hours
- Brow lamination does not permanently set your hairs in your desired, brushed up position. It breaks down the bonds in your hair so that you can easily manipulate them into the look you want. All you’ll need to do is brush them back into place with a lash brush in the morning to get them back to that fluffy finish
- Results will last for 6-8 weeks, don’t forget to use your brow serum twice a day for maximum results.
- To really enhance laminated brows and maintain that freshly laminated look right up to your next appointment, an ultra-strong eyebrow gel like brow gel or glue is a must have.
Waxing is one of our most popular treatments at Beautiful Nails & Body Salon, but we know it’s probably not everyone’s favourite treatment, and is more of a necessity than a luxury. That’s why we pride ourselves on our ability to make your waxing treatment as comfortable as possible whilst also protecting your modesty at the same time!
We are keen to promote the importance of pre-treatment and post-treatment care, it can mean the difference between a great waxing or threading treatment and a total disaster. We want you to be educated in how to prep your skin before a wax or thread and how to care for it afterwards. This will help you get the very best results from your treatment.
We also offer an alternative to waxing, this is Laser Hair Removal, speak to your therapist if you are interested or book in for a complimentary consultation.
So please take the time to read and follow our steps below and say hello to silky smooth skin!
PRE-TREATMENT RECOMMENDATIONS
- Let your hair grow for at least 2-weeks before your appointment (0.5 to 1cm is ideal)
- Exfoliating before your treatment is recommended for better waxing results
- Do not wear lotions, oils, deodorant or perfumes on the day of your waxing
- We have disposable underwear, you may prefer none at all, but don’t wear your best knickers!
- Fake tan will come off when waxing or threading
POST TREATMENT ADVICE
Follow the 48-hour rule for all areas of waxing or facial threading:
- Avoid sunlight and UV exposure
- Avoid touching the treated area as pores are open and sensitive
- Avoid deodorant, perfume and lotions
- Avoid saunas, hot tubs, steam room, swimming, hot baths and spa environments
- No sunbathing or fake tans
- Wear loose, clean clothing and keep area clean
- Exfoliate every 3-days to avid ingrown hairs and remove dead skin cells
- Rebook your waxing appointment every 4-6 weeks for maximum results
PRE-TREATMENT RECOMMENDATIONS
- Before carrying out an Eyebrow or Eyelash Tint we must carry out a patch test at least 24-hours prior to treatment, regardless of if you have had the treatment at another salon.
- It is recommended that you avoid eyelash and eyebrow tinting when pregnant, breastfeeding or undergoing IVF. Changes in hormones can leave you more prone to a reaction, so giving the tinting step a miss is best.
- Anti-ageing and exfoliating skincare should be avoided for 3-days either side of your treatment.
- Do not attend your appointment with makeup on the lashes or brows. The residue from the makeup can react with the tint and can cause irritations. Or, sometimes due to the presence of the makeup residue, the tint might not be absorbed properly.
- Although the chance of the tint getting in your eyes is extremely low, it’s still better to arrive at the salon without contact lenses, because you might feel uncomfortable with the lenses in and eyes closed for a while.
POST TREATMENT ADVICE
There’s nothing better than that fresh brow feeling, especially when they’ve been tinted, but what if you could make it last even longer? Following the correct aftercare advice for eyebrow tinting will help to prolong those salon-fresh brows for weeks after your appointment.
- Don’t expose your freshly tinted brows to water or moisture for 24 hours after your appointment. This means swimming, long showers, or heavy workouts that could make you sweat.
- DO apply a lash and brow serum to continue to care for your natural brows. (Just wait 24 hours after your first appointment before applying)
- Don’t go out in the sun for lengthy periods of time without protecting your brows. If you must, try to get in the shade or wear a hat.
- Cleanse your brows daily with an oil-free cleanser. It’s safe to use on tinted brows and will keep them squeaky clean and fight off dullness, locking in that bold and beautiful colour.
- Don’t overexpose your tinted brows to chlorine. Too much underwater swimming in chlorine-treated water can hurt the longevity of your lovely tint.
- Anti-ageing and exfoliating skincare should be avoided for 3-days either side of your treatment. After that, avoid applying around the brow area to prevent premature colour fade.
- Try not to excessively brush them; only brush them as part of your morning routine and then step away from the spoolie!
PRE-TREATMENT RECOMMENDATIONS
If you’re wondering what to expect at your appointment, our first ear piercing guide is here to help. You can expect the procedure to follow these steps:
- Do not drink caffeine, alcohol or take any blood thinners prior to your appointment.
- Eat a light meal and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated before your appointment.
- Arrive to your appointment with hair tied back and an idea of what you want.
- Firstly, you will complete a consultation form then the exciting bit, you’ll choose your piercing jewellery. This could either be a silver or gold stud, a birthstone or diamanté.
- Next, our expert piercer will clean the ear with an antiseptic solution. This is done to help prevent infection.
- Then the piercer will mark out the dots on the ear lobe and show you in the mirror, then using a safe, sterile Caflon piercing gun, the ears will be pierced one at a time in your chosen position in the ear. Mums are welcome to hold hands (children and adults!)
- Then its time to look in the mirror and think to yourself what all the fuss was over!
POST TREATMENT ADVICE
- Wash hands thoroughly before touching studs or ears.
- Cleanse front and back of the ear 2 times a day with Caflon Natural Solution without removing studs. Then rotate studs 2 or 3 times, 90º left and 90º right, i.e. a quarter turn only, thus avoiding hair wrapping around the post at the back of the lobe. In between cleansing, the ears should be kept dry.
- Keep hair spray, soap, shampoo and other preparations away from the ears.
- After shampooing, the ears should be rinsed with clean water and then cleansed with Caflon Natural Solution.
- The piercing area should be cleansed with Caflon Natural Solution, then kept dry, especially after bathing, swimming or exercise.
- Do not remove studs or handle your ears and/or studs unnecessarily.
- Do not push the butterfly along the post towards the ear – the butterfly must always be positioned of the tip of the post. Feel the position each time you clean the ear – it must feel smooth. This ensures that the earring remains LOOSE during the healing period. This is essential as too tight may lead to inflammation.
- Do leave studs in the ears for 6 weeks continuously.
- After 6 weeks the stud can be removed, and other post-type earrings may be worn continuously.
- Use only post-style earrings continuously for the first 6 months from piercing.
- The post should be surgical stainless steel or other hypo-allergenic material.
- Minor pain/redness may occur immediately – this is normal, this will settle within 48-hours provided proper after-care is carried out. If undue pain/swelling/redness occurs at any time, seek medical advice before removing the ear-piercing stud.
PRE-TREATMENT RECOMMENDATIONS
When it comes to achieving the perfect spray tan, it pays to make sure you prepare properly to help achieve that perfect glow that lasts even longer. The last thing you want is to have an uneven or patchy tan because of incorrect preparation. We have 4-shades of tanning solution, and your therapist will easily match your skin tone with the correct shade, so don’t worry you won’t turn in to an umpalumpa!
- REMOVE UNWANTED HAIR
The first step to preparing for your spray tan is to remove any unwanted hair. This is to ensure that the tan is being applied to a smooth surface, allowing the tan to stick to the skin more effectively.
We recommend that you try to shave or wax at least 24-48 hours before your spray tan. If you don’t remove unwanted hair, tanning solution will cling to your hair shafts, creating a dotty and uneven finish. When it comes to choosing waxing or shaving, if you can, waxing is the better choice.
This is because waxing will prevent hair growth for up to a month, helping your tan look better for longer. It is worth noting that if you choose to wax, be sure to do this well before your treatment. This will allow your follicles to close up, ensuring that your tan looks balanced, even and natural.
If you prefer shaving, remember that if you shave too early after your tanning treatment it will strip your skin of its caramel hue, so waxing is an excellent option for prolonging your colour.
- EXFOLIATE YOUR SKIN
Another important step to undertake before your spray tan treatment is exfoliation. This ensures that your skin is clean and free from toxins prior to your treatment, allowing the tan to bond to your skin more effectively.
The night before your tan exfoliate your skin with a gentle exfoliator or scrub to slough off the top layer of dead skin cells. We recommend not to use a harsh glove or pad, but instead use a gentle exfoliating brush or glove. Removing these cells will reveal the fresh skin cells beneath, which will form the smooth base that your spray tan will stick to. The fresher your skin cells, the longer the life of your tan – it’s as simple as that.
- APPLY NAIL POLISH OR GEL
This is sometimes a step that people often forget about, but is an important part of preparing for your spray tan. While to focus is making sure your skin is ready to help achieve that golden tan for even longer, making sure your nails are protected is key to completing your look.
Your therapist will usually apply a barrier cream to your nails before you enter the spray tan booth to prevent tanning solution from staining your nail bed and cuticles. As part of your own spray tan preparation, we always say to apply nail varnish to your fingernails and toes before your treatment for an extra layer of protection.
- AVOID PERFUMES, MOISTURISER OR DEODORANT
While we all want to make sure that we smell our best, when it comes to a spray tan, perfume and deodorant can actually work against you. Make sure to avoid perfumes and deodorant on the day of your tan because some of the chemicals found in these products can prevent fake tan from adhering to the skin smoothly.
Moisturizer will act as a barrier to the spray tan.
- KEEP YOUR HAIR UP & WEAR LOOSE CLOTHING
A simple but easy to forget final step, keeping your hair up on the day of your tan is important to ensure that it stays out of the way. Either tie your hair back or use a headband to stop any solution from getting on your hairdo. Make sure you also bring along some loose clothing, like a baggy t-shirt or dress, to wear after your session, which will allow for your freshly applied tan to dry thoroughly. It’s best you don’t put a bra or tight shoes on either, oh on that note, don’t wear your best underwear, we will provide disposable knickers, or you can bare all if you dare!
POST TREATMENT ADVICE
- The easiest strategy you can adopt to prolong your fake tan is to become best friends with a fabulous moisturiser. Try to moisturise the whole of your body with a hydrating cream that feeds the skin with nourishing ingredients and skin-friendly additives. This will slow down the skin’s natural regeneration process and prevent the top layer of skin cells from falling away. This top layer of cells is where the colour from your spray tan lies so it’s vital to keep the skin moisturised so you can maintain an even colour.
- Do not exercise, use saunas, steam rooms, hot tub, hot bath or hot showers for 48-hours after a spray tan. Just a luke warm shower to wash off the guide colour is all you will need.
- Do not shave or wax after a spray tan, waxing will strip the colour off.
- Do not put tight clothing or shoes on and keep your bra off until the recommended time has ended (usually 8 hours before washing off the guide colour)
- Once you’re ready to remove your tan, start exfoliating and having hot baths and showers, use an exfoliating mitt. Tan that is difficult to remove and becomes patchy and dirty looking is usually caused because the shade applied was too dark for your skin tone.
