AFTERCARE ADVICE

LED Phototherapy is a clinically proven and safe treatment without discomfort or downtime however for optimum results, we recommend that you read and follow the Dermalux Pre and Post treatment advice outlined below.

PRE-TREATMENT RECOMMENDATIONS

  • In preparation for your Dermalux LED Phototherapy treatment, all makeup and skin care products including sunscreen will be removed to allow absorption of beneficial light into the skin. For optimum results, exfoliation prior to treatment helps to remove dead skin cells which may reflect the light. For enhanced results a topical serum may be applied.
  • It is not necessary to remove contact lenses during the LED treatment.

POST TREATMENT ADVICE

  • Following your Dermalux LED Phototherapy treatment, apply the recommended skin care products which should include an SPF protection (day time only). Your skin care consultant can give you guidance on suitability of your current skin care products during the consultation.
  • However if Dermalux LED Phototherapy has been used in conjunction with other aesthetic procedures, specific aftercare advice should be followed.
  • Make-up can be applied immediately following Dermalux LED Phototherapy. However, we recommend the use of Jane Iredale mineral based or non-comedogenic formulations that do not block pores.
  • Drink plenty of water to maintain hydration levels and aid the lymphatic system to eliminate toxins.
  • In the unlikely event that any adverse reaction occurs following treatment, please contact your skin care professional within 24 hours for advice.

How does acne develop?
Our bodies produce a hormone called androgen, which stimulates our sebaceous glands to produce an oily substance called sebum. An over production of sebum can block pores, trapping the oil. Skin bacteria (P Acnes) that feed on and break down sebum also become trapped, and the mixture of hair protein, sebum and fatty acids produced by the bacteria irritate the walls of the hair follicle causing inflammation.

How does Acne Skin Rejuvenation work?
Ellipse treatment reduces the blood supply to the sebaceous gland, slowing down the production of sebum. The light also has the ability to kill some of the P Acnes bacteria directly. To do this, short safe bursts of intense pulsed light (called SWT technology by Ellipse) are directed at the skin. The system filters light to ensure the wavelengths used are absorbed by haemoglobin in the fine blood vessels that supply the sebaceous glands.

How long does the treatment take?
Allow 45-mins for full treatment. It takes approx. 60 flashes to treat the full face, the treatment includes consultation, before and after photographs, double cleanse and preparation of the skin followed by the Ellipse procedure, the treatment concludes with customised   ?????

After care will be prescribed at the end of treatment.

Can I be treated?
The best results are achieved on inflammatory acne, red, aching, raised acne. It is important that your skin has not been in the sun for 30-days prior to treatment.

Does the treatment hurt?
No anaesthetics are required, and many clients describe the procedure as practically pain free, like a flick from a rubber band followed by a sensation similar to the feeling of sunburn after a day at the beach.

Do I need to take special precautions before and after the treatment?
The light used is a completely safe, visible light so no special precautions are necessary. Ellipse acne treatment is a combination therapy, you can use adapalene cream or gel (in most countries branded Differin) and apply once every evening to the acne-affected area. Adapalene works by reducing the inflammation caused by acne and reducing (normalising) the thickness of the skin in the treated area. We have various after care products and these will be recommended depending on your concerns.

What can I expect?
You may notice some general redness to the face following the treatment. If you have any sun-damage, some of the pigmented spots may turn darker and eventually they will disappear. Because the bacteria are difficult to eradicate completely, your doctor may recommend that you continue using adapalene cream for some months after your treatment has ended.

Do I need to prepare my skin before the treatment?
To maximise the results, it would be advised that 1-month prior to the treatment you have had a professional skin peel treatment (we offer the Dermalogica Pro Power Peel) and then we would advise you to use homecare such as retinol, glycolic acid or AHA’s (available to purchase in salon)

We need the skin to be thinner and these treatments and products will help prepare the skin, by normalizing the skin thickness and allowing greater light penetration during treatment.
